February 7, 2007 - Bellefonte, Pennsylvania native, Marine Cpl. David Emery's legs and left arm were shattered in a suicide bomb attack in Al Anbar province in Iraq. The 22 year-old also suffered a severe abdominal wound, lost kidney function and was placed on a ventilator after the onset of pneumonia. David is currently recovering and undergoing physical therapy at the Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, D.C. |
April 6, 2007 - An American Angel™, the Nittany Leathernecks and people from the local community and across the USA presented Sgt. David Emery with a completely furnished new home, new car and their expenses paid for the next 3 years, in honor of our military’s strength, service and sacrifice. |
April 21, 2007 - Carlee Emery was born at 11:11 a.m. on the first day of spring and also on Sgt. David Emery Day, at the exact same time of day her father, David was born. She was 6.25 pounds and 20 inches long with a head full of dark hair. |
May 25, 2007 - President George W. Bush visited Marine Sgt. David Emery at Bethesda Naval Medical Center to personally present a Purple Heart Award to Emery accompanied by his wife, Leslie and new baby daughter, Carlee. At the presentation in his hospital room, D.J. received a personal invitation from the President of the United States to visit the White House when he learns how to walk again following his rehabilitation at Walter Reed Army Hospital, Emery’s next stop on his long recovery. |
| August 25, 2007 - During a break from his physical therapy, Sgt. David Emery was surprised with a birthday party from the community that included the presentation to Sgt. David Emery of a new Ford F-150 Crew Cab with custom handicap hand controls. |
December 5, 2007 - David Emery had a very busy day today trying to get some more sockets and liners in place. He got his ex-ray read today finally and they believe the syatic nerve is what is causing him trouble in the left stump. They said if he could deal with the pain to cope with it as long as he can because it is a very intensive surgery. So we will have to play this one out and see what happens. |
| February 8, 2008 - Connie Emery is going to be driving DJ back to Bethesda very shortly. The Mt. Nittany Medical Center ER staff did a CAT scan and found 2 masses of fluid in DJ's stomach. One had air pockets, which is usually a sign of infection. DJ's white blood cell count is up to 29,000 again (another sign of infection). |
March 6, 2008 - DJ is not allowed to do anything for 6-8 weeks. Dr Ritter was in and explained things this morning. He can't take a risk in tearing this apart so I guess when we get home he will be home bound for awhile but that will be a lot better then the hospital or the Navy Lodge. I better get a move on I will update if anything changes. I got a lot of phone calls about his truck yesterday so hopefully while he is laid up it will get done and ready to go. He will be so excited to finally be able to drive by himself!!! |
| March 22, 2008 - DJ is feeling a lot better than the surgery he had on Valentine's Day. He doesn't have the pain that he had before and he is able to move more. He is on restrictions and it is hard to keep him down right now he feels so good he just wants to do something besides staying in bed. He really enjoyed his time with Carlee this time since he was feeling better. DJ can't wait to go fishing but we have to find a place to get his wheelchair into. He has a few weeks yet before he can go anyway. |
